Zamfara Attack: 20 Women, Young Girls Abducted By Armed Bandits



At least 20 people, mostly young girls and women, have been taken by armed bandits in Moriki town, Zamfara State. The attack happened when the victims went to fetch firewood. A resident said the assailants ambushed them. The kidnappers have not yet contacted families or community leaders for ransom. The Zamfara State Police spokesperson stated he has not received details about the attack but will provide information once available. Zamfara and nearby states have faced banditry for over ten years, stemming from conflicts between herders and farmers. Local leaders and residents are urging the government for better strategies to tackle the root causes, such as poverty and education access. There is a growing need for cooperation among the government, security forces, and communities to improve safety.
