President Bola Tinubu Has Abolished The 5% Telecommunication Tax For Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has abolished the 5% excise duty on telecommunications services that was previously imposed on mobile voice and data services in Nigeria.

This decision aims to reduce financial burdens on citizens and boost the use of telecom services, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The complete removal of this tax is intended to alleviate financial pressures on consumers and businesses in Nigeria’s digital economy.

However, in October 2024, the National Assembly considered reinstating the tax as part of new revenue-generating measures, alongside levies on gaming, betting, and lottery services.
