Court Set To Hear Nnamdi Kanu's Motion Seeking Transfer To National Hospital

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed Monday, September 15, 2025, to hear a motion filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, seeking his transfer from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to the National Hospital, Abuja, for urgent medical treatment.

The motion, filed by his lead counsel Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), was granted leave to be heard during the court’s vacation by Justice Musa Liman, who cited the urgency of the matter.

According to the affidavit attached to the motion, Kanu’s health has reportedly deteriorated. He is said to be battling serious medical issues including:

Complications with his pancreas and liver

Low potassium levels

A lump discovered under his armpit

Doctors treating him allegedly recommended that he be transferred to the National Hospital for comprehensive care, which they believe cannot be adequately provided at the DSS medical facility.

The court is therefore set to decide on this motion tomorrow.

This development has once again put the spotlight on the ongoing legal and health battles surrounding the IPOB leader, who has been in detention since his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in 2021.
